It’s a well-known fact. We children feel safest when we are in Mum’s arms, but as Mum can’t hold us all the time (unfortunately!), perhaps it’s better to find out a little more about how to make sure we feel content, well and safe every moment of the day. Let’s be honest though: you only have to lose sight of us for a minute and we get up to all kinds of tricks, even if we don’t belong to the Magic Circle.

In the home

From birth to the first years of life, children spend most of their time at home. They explore and touch everything they find because they want to discover new things although they do not realise the risks they take. Cam, on the other hand, knows about these risks and for this reason, recommends a series of simple daily solutions and little gestures to help baby grow in absolute safety.
Just a little care is enough to make everyone feel safer, both parents and children.

Prevention is better than cure.

Here below, is a list of practical precautions for the home to prevent domestic accidents, both big and small:

  • Do not leave saucepan handles turned away from the cooker;
  • Keep all cutting tools in drawers;
  • Keep all toxic products and medicines locked away and at least one and a half metres above floor level;
  • Cover all sockets with socket covers and do not leave wires lying around;
  • Keep children away from hot electromagnetic equipment;
  • Do not leave easy to swallow or inflammable items around.

A lot of attention to make din-dins even better.

During meal time, make sure that baby cannot grab hold of forks or knives or spill hot liquids. At home, it is vital to use highchairs complying with safety standards, like Campione. For meals out at the restaurant, on the other hand, Cam has created products such as I-dea and Smarty, safe and comfortable sit-up chair seats that allow little ones to move about freely without the risk of falling, because they are secured directly to the chair and not to the table. It doesn’t take much to eat comfortably and safely, just like the grown-ups.

It’s bathtime: well-being and relaxation come first.

Children must never ever be left alone during bathtime, because just 5 or 10 cm of water can be dangerous for them. To make baby safer and for Mum’s convenience, it is better to use a baby bath with a non-slip base such as Baby Bagno or even baby baths incorporated in changing stations such as Nuvola. Finally, changing stations must be fitted with systems that prevent them from tipping up and with well padded protective sides and convenient compartments because while baby is being changed and dried, everything needs to be within easy reach to avoid the risk of baby falling as a result of distraction or sudden movements.

First steps in absolute safety.

When little ones start to walk, they launch themselves on a journey of exploration of every corner of the house. For this reason, Cam recommends fitting baby gates such as Sesamo and Corallina, especially near stairs so that baby cannot move without his parents’ supervision. When it comes to playtime, it is particularly important to use baby walkers such as Bubu that are fitted with systems to prevent them from falling down stairs. In any case, it is advisable to accompany toddlers at all times as they go walkabouts around the house, to teach them, patiently, which areas they can play in and which areas are dangerous. This, too, is a way of helping them grow up.

The rules for a quiet night’s sleep.

Sometimes telling a fairy tale is not enough to bring sweet dreams. It is important to provide little ones with cosy surroundings for bedtime, both at home and away. This means having a comfortable cot available, suitable for your baby’s size, where baby can snuggle up even on holiday. With this aim in mind, Cam has designed comfortable and convenient travel cots such as Sonno and Daily Plus. It is also essential to follow some simple precautions such as lying baby down on his back and never on his tummy to enable him to breathe properly; not allowing baby to get into the habit of going to sleep with his bottle to prevent the risk of suffocation; keeping the room temperature at 19°C and making baby’s bedroom a smoke-free zone. All these precautions will ensure that each night is a goodnight.

Can I taste it or not?

When I am at home I like to taste things and touch everything, but in this case, mum who always spoils me, has to be strict, very strict and understand how to stop my irrepressible curiosity.
It is true though that grabbing and “tasting” things is a very important part of my growth. I learn to understand the consistency, flavour and temperature of a material and realise what is around me. How lovely it is to be able to recognise, touch, throw and grab hold of something again!
Mum has made a list of the things that I can put in my mouth and other things that I must definitely not. Perhaps it’s better if I write them down so that I will remember them:

I can “taste”:
  • toys with the CE mark and which are suitable for my age. Mum must always check that the label bears the European regulation and the age in months/years at which the toy can be used.
I must definitely not touch the following or put them in my mouth:
  • plants (they may be poisonous if swallowed!)
  • medicines (only grown-ups can touch them!)
  • harmful toxic substances (cigarettes and cleaning products)
  • small objects and those that are unsuitable for my age
  • sockets without a socket guard

Bath-time without exaggerating!

How wonderful and relaxing it is to have a bath! Mum knows that I have great fun, but we mustn’t exaggerate! Having lots of baths or sponging me down, can in fact lower my immunity defences, especially if I am very young.

To clean my little face for example, it is enough to pat it with a cotton-wool pad dipped in warm water. In fact it is better not to use soap because it can irritate my skin and alter the natural pH level. If my little cheeks are red and irritated it is a good idea to apply some moisturising cream for babies on my cheeks, forehead and nose and massage gently with circular movements using the fingertips.

The same is true for my eyes: simply use a cotton-wool pad or a cotton wipe dipped in warm water or physiological solution, moving it from the inner corner of the eye outwards. To avoid transmitting any infection, it is important to change the cotton-wool pad or the wipe after treating each eye.

And now we know what to do, here is a list of all the products we need for our beauty farm:

  • cotton-wool pads;
  • cleansing lotion;
  • cleansing wipes;
  • phials of physiological solution;
  • decongestant oil of gomenol;
  • moisturising oil;
  • moisturising cream;
  • soothing baby cream;
  • gauzes;
  • white cocoa butter;
  • natural sponge;
  • soft brush;
  • alcohol-free eau de cologne for children.

Out and about

Going out for walks is a wonderful time both for children who start discovering the world and for parents who can enjoy some time of relaxation with their children. For this reason, Cam offers some information and practical advice to make walks safer and, as a result, even more enjoyable.

Out and about in safety: here is the secret.

To be considered really safe, baby transport products must comply with specific safety requirements and pass certain tests set by the European reference standard. Here below is a list:

Stability test

: The pram is placed on an incline of 12°, loaded with a 9 kg. weight (simulating a baby’s weight) with the brake off. It must not tip up in any position. During this test, the Cam modular systems maintain their stability even in the most difficult situations.

Securing devices resistance test

: The resistance of the pram securing device is tested to ensure it remains fastened to the chassis at all times. Cam performs this test on all its modular systems.

Brake test

: The pram, loaded with a 9 Kg. weight, must remain still in any position on an incline of 9°. In this case, the linked brake guarantees maximum safety and allows the pram to be parked with just one movement. All the Cam baby transport products are fitted with this system.

Test on uneven terrain

: Even if the pram is loaded with a weight (9 kg + 2 kg in the shopping basket), it must complete 72,000 circuits at 5 km/h. on a treadmill simulating uneven terrain. Thanks to these tests, Cam modular systems are safe, long-lasting and easy to handle on all types of terrain.

Resistance test

: Pushed against a rigid obstacle on a 10° incline, the pram, loaded with 9 kg weight + 2 kg in the shopping basket, must not suffer any structural damage. The Cam systems are tested according to these parameters and, consequently, they are safe and long-lasting.

PLEASE NOTE: The tests are always carried out in all three of the configurations: pram (with 9 kg weight inside), pushchair (with 15 kg weight inside) and chassis with car seat (with 9 kg weight inside)

Care for detail.

It is not enough to pass all the tests to be reassured. There are other elements to be taken into consideration to allow your little one to enjoy walks in absolute comfort. Cam, as always, has thought of all the details that make a difference and fitted them on its prams and pushchairs.

Belts
The belts must be easy to fasten and unfasten, but not easy enough for a baby to operate. The best pushchairs, moreover, are provided with two five-point belt adjustment positions, to secure even newborn babies on their first outings.

Materials and fabrics
The materials and fabrics used to make the pushchair must be completely non-toxic, resistant to rubbing and sunlight and must comply with the reference standards because they come into daily contact with baby’s hands, body and mouth.

Shock absorbers
A well-sprung and calibrated suspension makes the pushchair easier to manoeuvre and is essential for protecting baby from feeling the unevenness of the pavements and road surfaces. Accessories
The hood, footmuff and rain cover are not only convenient accessories, but also vital elements for protecting baby from bad weather both in summer and in winter.

Out and about in town: suggestions and warnings.
For carefree walks without any danger, a safe pushchair is not enough. Mum needs to pay a great deal of attention too. Here is some useful advice and a few warnings to ensure that every outing to town or to the park is a moment of real relaxation:

  1. Never leave baby unattended in the pram or in the pushchair even for a few seconds;
  2. Never leave the pram or pushchair in the sun, before using it with baby;
  3. Do not use the footrail at the back of the pram or the pushchair to carry another child;
  4. When out for a walk, be careful of sudden changes in temperature because children especially tend to get cold very quickly;
  5. Do not hang excessively heavy bags from the chassis handle in order not to upset the balance of the pram or pushchair.

A walk even if it is cold

Children love going out for walks: contact with the world stimulates older children’s curiosity, while it helps to distract and relax babies like me. Can we go out for a walk even if it is cold? Yes, of course! You just have to follow a few pieces of advice. Here are some of them:

  • Choose to go for a walk at the warmest time of day, it is nicer to go out in the late morning or early afternoon rather than in the evening when it gets dark: baby can look around, you don’t have to wrap him up too much and perhaps you can enjoy a cup of coffee or stop to sit on a bench in the sun and read while baby sleeps…
  • Wrap baby up in layers. You can take one layer off if the day gets warmer and if he falls asleep you will undoubtedly have a warm blanket at hand. Make sure you keep his little feet warm!
  • Try not to walk along roads where there is a lot of traffic. In winter the level of smog is quite high due to the heating in the houses. The air in very busy roads is even more polluted…
  • If you go in and out of heated places, remember to uncover and then cover up your baby. Don’t fall into the trap of sudden changes of temperature.

In the car

Children’s safety is of vital importance for Cam. For this reason, the company carries out constant research to find solutions to make their every journey, whether short or long, as safe as possible. Even though Cam makes safety its mission, it does not overlook the appearance, comfort and pleasure of its products. In fact, the company pays great attention to the highly advanced design and enables maximum customisation thanks to the extremely wide choice of colours and options available.

How to choose the right car seat.

The first step towards safety is to choose the right car seat following the European standard that recommends taking the child’s weight into consideration more than the age. To help Mums and Dads make the right, well-informed choice, the European standard divides car seats into 5 groups:

Group 0 for children from 0 to 10 Kg., for use from birth to about the age of 9 months.

The second group is called 0+ and is ideal for sturdier children or for those about 1 year old weighing up to 13 Kg.

Then there is group 1 for children from 9 months up to 4 years, weighing between 9 and 18 Kg.

Group 2, on the other hand, is used for children between 15 and 25 Kg., aged between 3 and 6 years old.

Finally, group 3 is suitable for the safety of older children up to 12 years in age, weighing between 22 and 36 Kg.

PLEASE NOTE: some car seats have been approved for use by more than one group (for example group 0+ from birth to 13 kg, group 2-3 from 15 to 36 kg and group 1-2-3 from 9 to 36 kg).

Learning how to read the label.

It is not easy to choose the most suitable car seat for your child as he grows. For this reason, it is very important to understand the classification labels, paying attention to all the identification data. Firstly, the car seat must be checked to ensure it has the standard approval mark which guarantees that the product complies with the European safety standard (the ministerial approved letter E followed by a number stands for the country issuing the standard approval). Then it is important to check the weight of the child authorised to use that type of car seat (e.g. 9-18 Kg.). Furthermore, the presence of the symbol Y means that the car seat is also fitted with a five-point harness. Last, but by no means least, it is important to check the note indicating the compatibility of the car seat with different car models (e.g. Universal). Some other figures on the label refer to the standard approval numbers and the progressive product number that guarantees the quality control.

What is the Isofix System?

The Isofix system is the most advanced and safest securing system designed to fix the car seat directly to the car chassis without having to use the seat belts. A real guarantee of the utmost safety and practicality possible.
There are three types of system. The Specific version is purpose designed for particular car models. The Semi-universal version is provided with two standard attachments and, for the majority of the products, a front support compatible only with a few makes of car. The Universal model is provided with two standard attachments on the base and a third anchoring point, the Top Tether, located on the back of the backrest. Compatible with the majority of vehicles in circulation, it is the latest generation of system adopted by Cam for their Group 1 car seat Viaggiosicuro Isofix.

It is possible to travel safely.

Like all the other Cam car seats, Viaggiosicuro Isofix has passed all the CSI tests with flying colours. CSI stands for the Italian Centre of Certification and Behavioural Analysis, one of the most highly recognised certification centres in Europe. Having undergone very severe tests, with dynamic tests simulating an impact of up to 50 Km/h, the car seat has proved that it is up to standard.

More stops Dad!

Dad, I love going on holiday, but long trips in the car are very boring! And you may think it’s strange, but I get tired very quickly! So let’s stop often (at least once every 2 hours), so that I can have some fresh air, let off some energy and go to the toilet. And why not take a few small, easy to handle toys with us? It is always great fun to play in the open with a frisbee or a ball!
And then… please don’t let us set off at the hottest time of day, and let’s avoid those days when we are likely to find long queues. When there is a lot of traffic you are not the only ones who get het up!
And then… let’s get some sunshades for the windows, nice colourful ones, please. Watching what is going on outside the car is fun, but please remember that we babies are very sensitive to sunlight.
And then… when it is time to sleep nothing is more comfortable than a neck support for children like Campione Mongolfiera: it has a soft ergonomic shape and the puppet keeps me company.
And then… we are already there and I didn’t even realise!

Have we got everything, Mum?

Mum, I know that when we go away from home you get a bit worried because you are always afraid of leaving something important behind. But as I am here, you just have to keep a few tips in mind to go away without any fears or worries.
Before we leave, remember to pack a bag with everything we need just for the journey: a complete set of spare clothes, nappies, a bottle with some chamomile tea to calm me and, obviously, the milk I need for mealtimes. If the journey is very long, (more than 4 hours), small thermos flasks are very useful for keeping the milk cool and a bottle heater for the car that plugs into the cigarette lighter.
Then we mustn’t forget water to keep me hydrated and something to munch (fruit, carrot sticks, crackers, fruit juices are all fine) because when travelling by car everyone likes to have a snack between meals and I do especially when I get bored and you don’t know how to stop me from crying!
Finally, remember some cleansing and refreshing wipes, hankies and a bag for rubbish so we will get to our destination all clean and tidy: me first and Dad’s brum brum too!
